Promoting home health care technology

:::

Taiwan is facing the challenges of an aging population and the escalating burden on its health care system, particularly in areas such as chronic disease management, care for patients with mobility issues and the allocation of medical resources. The current health care model may struggle to meet future needs. Home-based health care has emerged as an important approach to enhancing patients' quality of life and supporting the goal of aging in place. Recognizing this, the government plans to launch a policy in 2026 to promote home health care technology. The policy will leverage smart technology to extend medical and care services into homes and communities, alleviate strain on health care workers and address the diverse care needs of the population. In addition, it will spur innovation in the biomedical industry and expand markets by aligning with household demand.

Key areas

Technological innovation: Develop innovative, scalable solutions for home health care that address patients' diverse needs by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and other innovative technologies, and by defining the functional specifications of essential products and services according to real-world use cases.

Optimization and adoption: Create or improve upon affordable, easy-to-use products and integrated services. Accelerate the dissemination and widespread adoption of products and services that provide benefits for home health care, thereby driving growth in related industries.

Infrastructure networks: Integrate different information flows to enhance coordination among medical and care teams and create effective data-sharing mechanisms. Establish a network that supports front-line health care applications while also serving as a testbed for home health care technologies.
