Taiwan has designated the circular economy as one of the "five plus two" innovative industries in order to create a win-win for the environment and the economy while aligning with international practice. As part of this effort, a resource recycling and recovery plan (2018-2020) was drafted with the aim of ensuring that waste materials are properly recycled at every stage of the process, from production and consumption through disposal and recycling. By harvesting usable materials from waste rather than from natural resources, the plan will advance Taiwan toward its vision of a fully circular, zero-waste economy.
Four main strategies
◆ Increase resource utilization rate: Promote products with greater durability, repairability and recyclability. Raise energy and resource efficiency in manufacturing processes and reduce the creation of waste.
◆ Minimize wasteful use of resources: Create green consumption models while cutting down on the use of disposable products. Promote green procurement in government. Use recycled aggregates in public construction projects.
◆ Reduce waste: Improve front-end sorting in recycling systems to maximize recovery efficiency. Enhance renewable energy technologies, nurture emerging industries and promote recycling of energy resources.
◆ Improve recyclability: Ensure the quality of recovered materials and recycled products. Enhance technologies for recycling and recovery of resources.
