Launch of mobile-payment service to boost e-payment trend

:::
At the press conference today for the launch of Gama Pay, a non-credit-card mobile payment tool, Premier Chang San-cheng stated that he is glad to witness this success in promoting electronic payment (e-payment) services in the industrial sector and that he expects Gama Pay to boost domestic use of mobile payment, a development trend of the future.

Young people are the most frequent users of various mobile-phone apps, and to promote mobile payment by young smart-phone users the government has recently allowed Apple Pay to operate in Taiwan, Chang noted. In order to look after domestic mobile-payment operators and help the general public get accustomed to mobile payments, the government has formulated response strategies and demanded that international mobile-payment operators collaborate with domestic non-credit-card operators, such as those of debit cards and electronic farecards like the EasyCard and the iPass.

Gama Pay is the e-payment service of Gash Pay Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Gamania Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd., the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) stated. Gash Pay Co. is among the first batch of operators granted the special license for e-payment operations and is also the first domestic company approved by the FSC for online to offline operations. Gama Pay is expected to bring about a wholly new experience in convenient living when it becomes fully operational.

The government has been engendering a digital financial environment, the FSC pointed out. Aside from developing the e-payment industry, the FSC is working to create an environment and system suitable for the development of financial technology (FinTech). The FSC has also formulated a FinTech white paper and promoted "technology in finance and technology to facilitate finance" to provide the public better and more convenient financial services.

Development of the e-payment industry cannot be delayed, stated the FSC. In facilitating the convenience of domestic consumers and developing the domestic e-payment industry, the FSC will continue to adopt an open attitude toward innovative technologies in finance and usher in the swift opening of e-payment businesses.
