The Executive Yuan on Thursday approved a draft bill for a minimum wage law, proposed by the Ministry of Labor (MOL). The law aims to create a comprehensive review mechanism for the national minimum wage and to guarantee a minimum standard of living for workers and their families.
Premier Chen Chien-jen said the government has raised the minimum wage each year for the past eight years, and worked to secure economic development, agile industries and higher overall salary levels. The MOL's draft bill will ensure steady and transparent adjustment of the minimum wage, and will codify the economic and social indicators to be referenced when reviewing changes to the minimum wage. The premier instructed the MOL to communicate and coordinate with the legislative caucuses of all political parties to ensure swift passage of the bill into law.
