The Cabinet today passed draft amendments to the Renewable Energy Development Act formulated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The draft will now go to the Legislative Yuan for review.
Premier Lai Ching-te said that in order to achieve the goal of delivering 20 percent of Taiwan's energy from renewable sources by 2025, the government must actively expand promotion of all related policies and mechanisms. It is expected that these draft amendments will optimize the environment for the development of renewable energy and raise the effectiveness of government policies.
The revisions to the Renewable Energy Development Act were crafted to achieve three main objectives: opening up new sources of renewable energy, bringing diversity to the market and affording simplicity and convenience in related work. Necessary measures include allowing demand to guide supply and increasing the number of renewable energy installations, broadening the scope of renewables and ensuring protections for diverse uses of green energy, as well as simplifying application procedures, increasing flexibility for grid connections and providing solutions for the problem of overcapacity on Taipower's feeder lines.
