At the Cabinet's weekly meeting on Friday, Premier Cho Jung-tai was briefed by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) on a package of recent measures for improving pedestrian traffic safety with a focus on joined-up government and civic engagement. The premier said building a pedestrian-centric road environment forms part of the "active and innovative" Cabinet's key policy agenda to crack down on five types of crime and uphold seven types of safety. Premier Cho instructed the MOTC and relevant ministries and agencies to make an all-out-effort and ensure all of the planned measures for pedestrian traffic safety are fully implemented.
The premier requested that the MOTC, Ministry of the Interior and local governments join forces to ensure 799 urgently needed road intersection improvement projects subsidized by central government are completed by the end of 2024. In addition, on June 24 the MOTC will officially launch an online platform to facilitate two-way communication between the general public and the government on road safety issues, providing transparency and strengthening management and evaluation mechanisms. Through public-civic cooperation we will create a better road environment together, the premier said.
