Lungmen Nuclear Power Plant would not operate until safety ensured

:::

In response to New Taipei City Mayor Eric Liluan Chu and the Legislature's concerns about the safety of Lungmen Nuclear Power Plant, the Executive Yuan reiterated today that the government's commitment to nuclear safety protection is rock-solid, and the plant would not operate until the government ensured its safety.

The Executive Yuan expressed full support for President Ma Ying-jeou's doctrine that the government should ensure nuclear safety, steadily reduce dependence on nuclear power, create a green, low-carbon environment and gradually establish a nuclear-free homeland.

Officials emphasized that Lungmen Nuclear Power Plant would have to pass complete and rigorous commissioning tests and international nuclear safety regulatory institutes' evaluations and inspections. "The Executive Yuan stands with those who are concerned about nuclear safety and would ensure the plant meets the highest security standards," they said.
