Cabinet approves fundamental ocean affairs bill

:::

The Cabinet on Thursday approved a fundamental bill on ocean affairs as drafted by the Ocean Affairs Council (OAC). The bill will be forwarded to the Legislature for review.

Premier Su Tseng-chang said that as an oceanic nation, Taiwan must continually strengthen its marine-related endeavors whether in law and policy, scientific research, ecological conservation or industrial development. On Wednesday, the National Academy of Marine Research under the OAC was officially inaugurated. Today, the fundamental bill will establish clear policies and a vision for Taiwan's marine affairs by defining the government's authority and obligations, integrating policies and coordinating affairs. These efforts will help transform Taiwan into a secure, prosperous and ecologically minded oceanic nation.
