New Southbound Policy promotes bilateral cooperation in education and personnel exchanges

:::

Following a briefing by the Ministry of Education (MOE) on a program to cultivate human resources under the New Southbound Policy, Premier Lin Chuan today said the program has produced initial results. He then directed the MOE to continue the good work while keeping pace with the needs and objectives for personnel training and industry development in the countries targeted by New Southbound Policy.

The MOE was also tasked by the premier with enhancing bilateral cooperation and personnel exchanges with the target countries to foster closer ties and spur the domestic economy.

According to the MOE, the program has three objectives: to provide quality educational opportunities in Taiwan and facilitate two-way cooperation to cultivate professional personnel; to expand bilateral personnel exchanges; and to bolster bilateral cooperative platforms. The number of students from the targeted countries studying or conducting research in Taiwan is expected to grow 20 percent annually from 2017 to 2020, reaching 580,000 in the 2019-2020 academic year.
