Taiwan and the U.S. announced on Friday that an 11th Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council meeting will be convened in a virtual session on Wednesday, June 30 Taipei time.
The Executive Yuan's Office of Trade Negotiations (OTN) indicated that five years have passed since the previous meeting of the council, and that the upcoming session shows that Taiwan-U.S. economic and trade relations are improving along with the steadily warming bilateral relationship overall. Changing trends in global trade have drawn many new issues into the trade sphere, and the TIFA meetings provide a helpful channel for Taiwan to align itself with global norms.
Taiwan not only serves as an important link in international supply chains, but is also a reliable partner to the U.S., emphasized the OTN. The upcoming TIFA meeting will highlight even more clearly Taiwan's position in international economics and trade, as well as promote deeper trust and connections in economic and trade relations with other nations.
