The Executive Yuan on Thursday approved a draft law for the establishment of a foundation to research and certify railway technologies. The bill will now go to the Legislature for review and debate.
Premier Lai Ching-te said that with the government currently engaged in railway projects under the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program, the establishment of a national-level organization with exclusive responsibility for railway technologies is called for to enhance Taiwan's indigenous capabilities in critical railway systems technology, promote railway technology research, build supply chains, carry forward railway industry development, and create optimal testing and certification mechanisms and standards.
