ROC (Taiwan) athlete Huang Yun-wen today won the national team's eighth gold medal of the 2014 Asian Games by defeating Yoon Jeongyeon of South Korea 4-2 in the women's 53-kilogram (bantamweight) taekwondo competition.
Upon hearing the good news, Premier Jiang Yi-huah immediately sent a congratulatory message praising Huang for her excellent performance and for winning a gold medal for the nation. She has galvanized members of the national team to fight for more victories and continue to demonstrate their strengths, he added.
The Ministry of Education's Sports Administration stated that Huang routed Nepalese athlete Gurung Neema 12-0 in the round of 16, Nguyen Thanh Thao of Vietnam 13-5 in the quarterfinal and Iranian athlete Hajipourgoli Sousan 5-0 in the semifinal before winning her first Asian Games gold by overcoming Yoon.
The 2014 Asian Games are being held in Incheon, South Korea until October 4.
