Cabinet approves draft act for Typhoon Danas and severe rainfall recovery

:::

In July this year, Typhoon Danas caused severe damage when it struck the coastal areas of Chiayi and Tainan. The scale of the disaster expanded significantly due to heavy rainfall brought by southwesterly airflows, as well as continuous intense downpours that have affected cities and counties, including Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung, since July 28. This resulted in substantial damage to numerous roads, water infrastructure and agricultural and livestock facilities.

To ensure sufficient resources for post-disaster recovery and reconstruction at all levels of government, the Executive Yuan on Thursday approved the draft bill of a special act to facilitate post-disaster recovery and reconstruction following Typhoon Danas and the extremely heavy rainfall since July 28. The proposed act aims to assist impacted communities in rebuilding their homes through prompt and comprehensive measures.

Once the bill is submitted to the Legislative Yuan for deliberation, the Executive Yuan will continue engaging with all political caucuses to facilitate the swift completion of the legislative process. Upon the act's third and final reading in the Legislature, the Executive Yuan will promptly prepare and submit an associated special budget proposal for further deliberation. The premier expressed hope that the special budget will be passed as soon as possible to provide funding for the recovery and reconstruction of affected areas.
