The Legislative Yuan today voted in favor of a proposal raised by the Executive Yuan January 21 to reconsider a recently passed amendment to the Land Administration Agent Act.
Premier Jiang Yi-huah thanked Legislative Yuan President Wang Jing-pyn for his help in coordinating the vote, Executive Yuan Spokeswoman Cheng Li-wen said. The premier also expressed appreciation for the support of Wang, Legislative Yuan Vice President Hung Hsiu-chiu and the entire Kuomintang caucus.
A reconsideration proposal is an important mechanism provided by the Constitution—one that is not invoked unless absolutely necessary, Cheng pointed out. This time, the Executive Yuan felt compelled to ask legislators to reconsider the amendment they passed, as it would have undermined the national housing price registration system in contravention of the government's land justice policies.
Following today's decision, Article 51-1 of the act will revert to the version before the amendment was made. Premier Jiang asked the Ministry of the Interior to study the regulations complementing this law and to propose any revisions at the next legislative session.
