The Executive Yuan is pleased that student-led protestors vacated the Legislative Yuan complex in a peaceful and rational manner today. Their departure allows parliament to resume its normal operations and meets with the expectations of the majority of the people, said Executive Yuan Spokesperson Sun Lih-chyuan.
During the 24-day long occupation, lawmakers had been unable to review nearly 3,000 pieces of legislation, including the cross-strait services pact, the cross-strait agreement oversight bill, a fiscal health package, amendments to the Urban Renewal Act, a long-term care bill, and a special bill governing the free economic pilot zones. The Executive Yuan hopes the Legislative Yuan can be restored and resume its work of making laws as swiftly as possible.
