At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a Ministry of Education report on Taiwan's national team preparations for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, and a Ministry of Culture report on Taiwan's participation in the accompanying Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad. The premier said this Olympics will be the first time that Taiwan has employed a sports science support team, as well as provided an apartment where Taiwanese-style food can be prepared, a physical therapy clinic, a sports center and other on-site services for Taiwan's national delegation to ensure more comprehensive training and logistical assistance. He emphasized that the government is committed to throwing its full support behind its national athletes.
Taiwan's delegation to the Paris Olympics comprises a total of 60 athletes across 16 sports. In addition to Taiwan's traditional strengths in weightlifting, archery and table tennis, the national team has also qualified for the first time in canoe sprint and breaking, which represents a promising start to the games, the premier said.
This year, Taiwan is also participating in the illustrious Cultural Olympiad, which is held in conjunction with the games. The premier stressed that this is an important opportunity to promote civic exchanges and cooperation, showcasing Taiwan on the world stage and enhancing the global community's appreciation of Taiwan's culture and its diverse values.
