The Executive Yuan on Thursday approved a draft bill that aims to establish a legal framework for culture in Taiwan. The bill will now go to the Legislature for review.
Premier Lai Ching-te characterized Taiwan's culture as both rich and diverse, and centered on the people themselves. Citizens' cultural rights such as creating and participating in local culture deserve legislative protection, he said. The government has a responsibility to foster an environment conducive to cultural development and advance the multifaceted evolution of culture in Taiwan. Today's passage of the culture bill will establish the fundamental principles and policy direction for national cultural development, help realize people's cultural rights, and raise the curtain on a Taiwan of culture.
