At 7 p.m. tonight, the Executive Yuan will be hosting the fourth online forum on regulations governing activities in the virtual world, this time discussing remote health care and usage and de-identification of personal information.
On the topic of remote health care, participants will discuss the possibility of permitting online sales of medical devices and products, such as blood pressure monitors, ear thermometers, contact lens solution, liquid handwash, menthol sticks, analgesic oils, medicated soap and Chinese herbal medicinal alcohol.
The topic of personal data will cover the handling of personal information contained in the government's open data released for public use. Questions will include how to balance the use of such data with protection of personal information, what degree of de-identification is needed to protect the privacy of the subjects, and who should determine such standards.
Streamed live on LIVEhouse.in, the forum will feature in-depth discussions by regulators, scholars, experts and online group representatives. Messages posted by Internet users on vTaiwan.tw will also be addressed.
The vTaiwan.tw platform was created by the government and the online group g0v.tw as a place for citizens to discuss government laws and policies. After the Executive Yuan passed a plan last December to align regulations with virtual world developments, it partnered with vTaiwan.tw to seek the public's opinions on how the regulatory framework can be amended.
Remote health care and personal data are pressing issues that must be addressed by the government and the public. The Executive Yuan welcomes all interested in digital life issues to join the forum.
