Following lively discussions on May 18 and 25, the panel of consultants for the forthcoming national conference on economic and trade affairs will convene for the third time on June 8 to hammer out more details on the conference, Executive Yuan Spokesperson Sun Lih-chyun said today.
During the previous two meetings, the format and time for holding the national conference were confirmed, Sun said. At the next meeting, the panel will confirm topics of discussion and the list of delegates representing the public at the conference. The consultants will also deliberate on introductory reports to be presented at the regional and national conferences.
The conference discussion topics, drawn from recommendations of the previous meetings and compiled by administrative agencies, will focus on two areas: Taiwan's strategies for economic development under globalization; and cross-strait trade and Taiwan's strategies for regional economic integration. The topics will help conference participants explore ways of raising industrial competitiveness in a globalized world, how to help young people and vulnerable groups and businesses develop, and how best to respond to the effects of cross-strait trade on Taiwan's economic development, national security, and economic and cultural autonomy.
The administrative agencies will also ask the panel for confirmation on a list of delegates nominated to represent political parties, government agencies, the academic community (including students), the business community and civic groups at the regional and national conferences.
