Premier reaffirms commitment to assist renter households

:::

At the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a progress update from the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) on the government's NT$30 billion (US$928.7 million) expanded rent subsidy program. The premier said that access to housing is a basic human right and forms part of a fair and just society. He instructed the MOI to vigorously promote the government's program to support 1 million renter households, which aims to achieve a cumulative total of 250,000 newly constructed social housing units; 250,000 rental units through a government subleasing and management program; and 500,000 rent-subsidized households by the year 2032.

While maintaining a balanced budget, the Executive Yuan will make every effort to provide rent subsidies and alleviate the needs of more renter households, the premier said. Within the scope of the current budget, the central government will offer subsidies to all those who apply and meet the requirements of the program in 2024.
