Premier Chen Chien-jen on Wednesday received a cross-party parliamentary delegation from Kosovo. The premier noted that all members of the delegation are trailblazers who led the way in expanding the partnership between Taiwan and the Baltic states. As a global leader in the ICT and semiconductor industries, Taiwan has the capital, technology and industrial management experience, as well as a vibrant small and medium-sized enterprises sector, all of which can serve as a jumping-off point for deeper bilateral exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and the Baltic states.
Premier Chen said he hoped that the visit will prove fruitful in expanding bilateral economic and trade exchanges, and that on returning home delegation members will share their experiences with fellow Kosovans, so that the Taiwan-Kosovo relationship can scale even greater heights. The premier also expressed hope that Kosovo would add its weight behind the European-based Formosa Club's joint statement in support of Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly to expand and strengthen international solidarity with Taiwan.
Avdullah Hoti, former prime minister of Kosovo, member of parliament and the delegation's leader, said in his remarks that Taiwan faces challenges due to various economic developments around the world, but the country has managed to build a resilient and stable economy. When it comes to international relations and dealing with international institutions in particular, Taiwan and Kosovo face the same challenges, and Taiwan has managed to do very well in the international arena. MP Hoti said Taiwan is a country that is working to maintain regional peace, just as Kosovo has also been working to contribute to peace in the Western Balkans.
MP Hoti said he believes Kosovo and Taiwan can work together as two economies that complement each other; Kosovo looks forward to working with like-minded partners such as Taiwan across many economic sectors. The delegation this time has brought a small group of business representatives who already have some clear ideas about how Kosovo and Taiwan can work together, he said, starting from organizing strategic economic dialogue between the two countries.
