Premier Lai Ching-te paid a call on Legislative Speaker Su Jia-chyuan and Deputy Speaker Tsai Chi-chang today to seek closer cooperation between the executive and legislative branches of government. He assured lawmakers that his team at the Executive Yuan will respect and accept the Legislature's oversight moving forward.
The premier shared his vision and hopes for opening a new chapter for Taiwan. First, he will hold his administrative team accountable to the same standards he held years earlier while serving as caucus whip for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). Second, he will improve communication with every caucus and demonstrate respect for all opposition parties. Where political parties disagree on major pieces of legislation that affect the nation's welfare, the Executive Yuan will submit pragmatic proposals and coordinate closely with lawmakers to build common ground on important policies. Third, he earnestly hopes that all parties will come together to strengthen cooperation between the executive and legislative branches as a show of the nation's progress.
Later during the visit the premier also spoke with the legislative caucuses of the Kuomintang, the People First Party, the New Power Party and the DPP.
