Premier thanks El Salvador for backing ROC's international participation

:::
Receiving El Salvador's Foreign Minister Hugo Roger Martinez Bonilla at the Executive Yuan today, Premier Jiang Yi-huah thanked the Central American ally for voicing support on several international occasions for the Republic of China's entry into various world bodies such as the World Health Organization, the International Civil Aviation Organization and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

"The ROC looks forward to raising our international profile and hopes that El Salvador can continue to throw its weight behind the ROC."

The ROC and El Salvador have recently completed negotiations on a letter of intent for a bilateral cooperation agreement, which will be signed soon by the two countries' foreign ministers. Noting that the agreement reveals a staunch friendship between Taiwan and El Salvador, the premier hopes it will not only help consolidate bilateral ties but also bring about more exchanges between the peoples of the two countries.

Premier Jiang also expressed gratitude to Minister Martinez for his assistance during a visit to the Central American country in June, when Jiang led a delegation on President Ma Ying-jeou's behalf to attend President Salvador Sánchez Cerén's inauguration ceremony. The trip was a success thanks to Martinez's arrangement for meetings with El Salvador's president, vice president and several political dignitaries. Jiang expressed his hope that President Sánchez will also visit the ROC some day and personally experience the warmth and friendship of the people of Taiwan.
