The Executive Yuan is deeply apologetic for the disruptions that spread nationwide as a result of this afternoon's power outage, Spokesperson Hsu Kuo-yung said today.
At a joint news conference, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Taiwan Power Co., and state-owned fuel supplier CPC Corp. said that the blackout was most likely attributable to human error at a power plant in Taoyuan. The Executive Yuan has two statements on the matter:
1. Economics Minister Lee Chih-kung has tendered his resignation verbally to Premier Lin Chuan, and will deliver the formal letter of resignation Wednesday or Thursday to the Executive Yuan.
2. As for the extraordinary legislative session to be convened soon, the Executive Yuan will respect the Legislature's decision on whether the premier is to attend to report on the power outage.
