The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) is enhancing Taiwanese design services' international management and operational capabilities in order to bolster their connections with global design organizations, unleash their abundant design capabilities and assist them to explore overseas markets and shine in the international arena, Premier Jiang Yi-huah said after a briefing on this plan by the ministry at today's Cabinet meeting.
Design is one of the "spotlight" industries of the initiative to globalize the services sector, which is a major part of the Three Industries, Four Reforms policy espoused by the Executive Yuan, Jiang pointed out.
It is hoped that with government assistance, an excellent image will be crafted for Design in Taiwan (DIT) to help design businesses upgrade and globalize, remarked the premier, who asked the MOEA to speedily implement the measure and enjoined other central ministries as well as local governments to fully support the plan.
The premier noted that Taipei City has been selected as the 2016 World Design Capital, and the Taiwan Design Expo will complement that event by hosting various international design activities to draw world-class designers and experts to Taiwan. This will in turn boost Taiwan's design industry and build a strong foundation for its future development, he indicated while asking all relevant agencies to provide assistance.
Moreover, the nation's design services have already spilled over from traditional industrial design into other fields, such as the cultural and creative industry, Jiang said.
"The design industry is a link in the cultural and creative industry that encompasses a wide range of aspects and requires cross-ministerial efforts. The Executive Yuan will incorporate inter-ministerial resources through ad hoc meetings and other platforms to propel Taiwan's cultural and creative sector," he pledged.
