Minister of Justice Tseng Yung-fu tendered his resignation to Premier Jiang Yi-huah today after a special investigation division charged him with involvement in an influence peddling case.
The justice minister visited the Executive Yuan in the afternoon to brief Premier Jiang on the specifics of the matter, saying it is his duty as a political appointee to defend his honor and clear his name. Tseng emphasized that he is stepping down not because of the accusations but to take up political responsibility and ensure the following investigation is carried out properly.
Premier Jiang expressed agreement with the decision and accepted Tseng's resignation. Before a replacement is named, meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Justice Chen Ming-tang will serve as acting minister.
