Taiwan's WorldSkills Competition wins reflect strong investment in education

:::

At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a Ministry of Labor briefing on Taiwan's participation in the WorldSkills Competition 2024, which was held in Lyon, France last week. Taiwan's national team won 2 gold, 3 silver and 10 bronze medals, as well as 28 medallions for excellence, placing fourth overall out of 69 countries and regions. The premier praised this outstanding achievement and thanked colleagues at the Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their joint cooperation in ensuring the athletes' participation in the competition went smoothly.

In addition, Taiwan has been selected to host the 2025 WorldSkills Asia competition. The premier instructed the relevant ministries and agencies to work together with local governments to ensure the proper organization of this international event. Premier Cho noted that the Executive Yuan introduced the Higher Education Sprout Project in 2018, which is now in its second phase, in order to promote the cultivation of technical and vocational education. The project has injected a total of more than NT$65 billion (US$2 billion) to assist technical and vocational colleges in developing distinctive teaching programs and promoting industry-academia cooperation. The government will continue to invest in budgets and resources to build better-quality learning environments for young Taiwanese.
