Partial list of nominees to Transitional Justice Commission announced

:::

Minister without Portfolio and Executive Yuan Spokesperson Hsu Kuo-yung on Saturday announced the names of nominees for the chairman, vice chairman and a number of members to serve on the new Executive Yuan Transitional Justice Commission (TJC). Former Control Yuan member and founder of the Taiwan Research Foundation Huang Huang-hsiung is slated to lead the TJC as chairman, with Deputy Minister Chang Tien-chin of the Mainland Affairs Council to assume the vice chairmanship, said Minister Hsu.

Chairman-nominee Huang is known for his research of Taiwan's history, which began during an era when such work was discouraged and even suppressed. He has also long been on the forefront of Taiwan's democratization. With a strong sense of mission toward his homeland, the chairman-nominee has played a constant role in Taiwan's long march from authoritarianism to democracy.

The members of the new TJC should be versed in such disciplines as politics, history, social science, law, psychology, religion and human rights, said Minister Hsu, adding that the nominees for chairman, vice chairman and other members announced today all have relevant expertise and meet the Executive Yuan's professional standards for such appointments. The minister expressed confidence that every member will have something to contribute to the TJC's promotion of transitional justice on multiple fronts, as well as help the TJC achieve its objective of pursuing truth and social reconciliation.

Premier Lai Ching-te emphasized that transitional justice is one of the five major political reforms announced by President Tsai Ing-wen. President Tsai has also called for a team to be assembled to draft an investigatory report as soon as possible following the establishment of the TJC. The Executive Yuan and related ministries and agencies will devote full efforts to implementing the president's policies, and support the TJC's work to achieve transitional justice.
