New Health Coin policy promotes healthy habits, 'Healthy Taiwan' vision

:::

At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) report on the planning and implementation of a new Health Coin policy. The premier said that realizing President Lai Ching-te's "Healthy Taiwan" vision is one of the administration's core objectives, and that alongside continued advancements in disease treatment, the government will heighten its focus on disease prevention and health promotion to mitigate the fiscal pressures arising from growing medical care and National Health Insurance (NHI) expenditures. The Health Coin initiative aims to motivate greater interest in personal health among citizens, incentivizing them to build healthy habits through daily routines, thereby lowering the risks of chronic diseases and cancers.

The Health Coin policy will officially launch on October 1. To accumulate Health Coins, simply download the government's NHI mobile app and complete the lifestyle questionnaire, or participate in health promotion activities such as health checkups, vaccinations and cancer screenings. These coins can then be redeemed through designated outlets for health-related products, medical services, exercise classes and other benefits, offering tangible incentives to encourage healthy habits.

Premier Cho also instructed the MOHW to cooperate with the Ministry of Sports to explore integrating Health Coins with the existing Sports Coin program—which provides digital vouchers for athletic activities—and enhancing incentive mechanisms for both initiatives. The aim is to further encourage a nationwide culture of exercise, establish a new model for cultivating healthy habits, and work together to build a healthier Taiwan.
