At Thursday's Cabinet meeting, Premier Chen Chien-jen received a briefing from the Ministry of Interior on the results of promoting social housing and proposed measures to increase land supply for social housing. The premier said the government has promoted a social housing policy since 2017, and with the joint efforts of ministries, agencies and local governments, the target of 200,000 social housing units will be successfully achieved by the end of 2024.
The premier said the next goal will be to achieve 1 million units of social housing by 2032, with units equitably distributed across major communities nationwide. In the future, when county and city governments carry out zone expropriation or urban land consolidation in their development zones, 3-5% of the land must be reserved for sale to the central government for social housing use. In addition, the government will require that urban renewal and transit-oriented development projects that have been granted higher floor area ratios must prioritize allocating space for social housing units, so as to expand the supply of land for social housing purposes.
