Today the ROC (Taiwan) men's golf team garnered two gold medals and one bronze at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
The quartet of Kao Teng, Pan Cheng-tsung, Wang Wei-lun and Yu Chun-an won the men's team competition, tallying 819 strokes over four days, seven strokes better than the host country's second-place total. In addition, Pan Cheng-tsung claimed a gold medal in the men's individual competition with a four-round total of 271, or 17 under par. Meanwhile, 16-year-old Yu Chun-an grabbed the bronze with a total score of 276, edging five competitors who tallied 277.
Upon hearing the news, Premier Jiang Yi-huah immediately sent a congratulatory message to the members of the men's golf team for their excellent performance.
The national team has now won seven gold, four silver and 11 bronze medals in this Asian Games, which conclude October 4.
The Ministry of Education's Sports Administration expects the nation's golfers to be just as successful in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which will be the first Olympics to feature golf as a formal event since 1904.
By defeating golf powerhouses South Korea (the host country) and Japan, the ROC's athletes demonstrated their prowess and the strong foundation of the national golf team, the agency affirmed.
