Nation extends humanitarian relief to Nepal

:::
At the Cabinet meeting today, Premier Mao Chi-kuo was briefed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) on the government's measures in response to Nepal's devastating earthquake.

The earthquake has dealt the Himalayan nation a severe toll in human lives and property, and the ROC government has expressed grief and condolences to the Nepalese government, the premier stated.

The ROC government and private sector are also eager to extend Nepal a helping hand by providing humanitarian relief. The MOFA and MOHW have jointly sent an advance team to Nepal while private-sector medical personnel and relief materials have successively reached the country. All such measures fully demonstrate the nation's capabilities in global humanitarian relief, Mao said.

After the earthquake, the MOFA and other relevant agencies promptly activated contact and protection of ROC travelers in Nepal, the premier pointed out. Most ROC nationals have safely returned home, but several citizens have still not been contacted. The premier expressed his gratitude to the MOFA and other agencies for their efforts and instructed them to continue employing various channels to locate these citizens.

On behalf of the government, the MOFA instantly extended condolences and donated US$300,000 for disaster relief to Nepal shortly after the quake, the premier further pointed out. The MOHW has also set up three disaster-relief donation accounts, the funds of which will be unilaterally transferred to Nepal by the MOFA. The government will also continue to provide assistance and support to the relief efforts.

The MOHW stated that the three disaster-relief accounts are as follows:

Account number: 270750
Account name: 衛生福利部賑災專戶 (MOHW disaster relief account)
