Premier Jiang Yi-huah at today's Cabinet meeting stated that the agencies directly under the Executive Yuan were verified at the beginning of this month as compliant with ISO27001 information security standards.
"There are very few state bodies whose departments have all adopted such authentication," Jiang said. "It is especially rare to undertake this complex but important process on one's own accord."
The premier praised and thanked the head of information security, the Executive Yuan's Department of Information Management (DIM) as well as Executive Yuan staff for their efforts and urged them to stay vigilant and maintain their excellence.
"The protection of information security is extremely important," Jiang said. "Every agency should place great importance upon it, but especially those which are frequent targets of hackers such as the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Finance, Financial Supervisory Commission and Ministry of Health and Welfare.
"International online assaults have been frequent in recent years. Due to this trend, the global outlook on information security is grim. The Executive Yuan has this year faced an average of 1,900 cyber-attacks per week and 440 e-mail attacks per month.
"This clearly demonstrates the importance of information and communications safety. When President Ma Ying-jeou was briefed on this subject, he instructed the Executive Yuan to give top priority to Internet security," the premier said.
Jiang asked other ministries to come into line with the Executive Yuan's current information security standards and strengthen their protection capabilities, especially in terms of budget and personnel training. Those which require assistance can ask the Executive Yuan to share its experiences or contact the DIM, he assured.
