Premier Jiang Yi-huah at today's Cabinet meeting commended investigators, police and the Coast Guard for their May 8 confiscation of 450 kilograms of ketamine being smuggled to Taiwan from mainland China. "This is our nation's biggest bust of a drug smuggling container in years," he said. "Our colleagues' effort is worthy of affirmation."
Jiang also said that since the Chinese mainland is the principal source of the ketamine flooding into Taiwan, the Ministry of Justice should make use of the mechanism established by the Cross-Strait Agreement on Joint Crime-fighting and Judicial Mutual Assistance and bring investigators, police, the Coast Guard and customs together to work with their mainland Chinese counterparts to protect public health by preventing drugs from entering Taiwan.
