The Executive Yuan has adjusted the central government's 2018 general budget to increase salaries by 3 percent for all military personnel, civil servants and public school teachers starting next year, Spokesperson Hsu Kuo-yung announced today.
Raising pay for public sector employees will stimulate the economy and create a positive impact on overall economic activity. The Executive Yuan hopes the move will also spur pay increases for workers in the private sector as well.
The government plans to pay for the raise by finding new sources of revenue and cutting costs. No additional debt is to be issued, so the fiscal budget deficit will not be affected, Hsu said.
