Taichung Software Park to encourage innovation

:::
The Taichung Software Park (TSP) is being positioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) as a base for digital content, culture and creativity, innovation, and research and development, Premier Jiang Yi-huah said today.

Jiang asked relevant agencies and local governments to assist with development of Taiwan's software industry and make the TSP a base for nurturing innovation and expressing creativity.

The premier made these remarks after being briefed by the MOEA at today's Cabinet meeting about the recruitment of businesses and development strategy for the park.

The TSP's development process was facilitated by innovative cooperation between agencies overseeing different fields, Jiang indicated. "The pace of private land acquisition and national land revitalization was hastened, and task forces established jointly by central and local governments effectively cut down on administration time and increased efficiency.

"Moreover, the development strategies employed attracted private investment in the project and stimulated local development, creating a win-win situation.

"This model can serve as a reference for subsequent park and public infrastructure development," the premier said.

Recruitment of businesses for the TSP is also being carried out in an innovative fashion, the MOEA said, with the MOEA Export Processing Zone Administration, Taichung City Government, Tunghai University, Tai-Chung Computer Association, and businesses involved in the park's development creating joint working groups and bringing together academic and vocational training resources in central Taiwan to offer talent cultivation services and discounts on park management fees and land rent to businesses that have applied or plan to move to the park.

At present, 100 percent of the park's land has been rented out, and investment in the TSP totals NT$6.58 billion (US$217 million). The annual production value of the TSP is estimated to be NT$17.6 billion (US$581 million) once tenants complete their moves into the office buildings and begin work.
