Premier praises innovations like NHI card-based tax-filing method

:::
At the Cabinet meeting today, Premier Chang San-cheng commended the Ministry of Finance (MOF) for its proactive innovations in recent years in promoting individual income tax e-services popular among the public, and for the new service debuting this May 1 that enables taxpayers to file individual income taxes using their National Health Insurance (NHI) card and password.

The premier made these remarks after an MOF briefing on publicizing 2015 individual income tax filing and implementing the new tax-rebate e-system for foreign travelers' purchased goods.

After being registered and certified online, taxpayers (including foreign nationals) can choose to use their NHI card and password to check their individual income and deductions data and file their 2015 individual income tax returns.

The new tax-rebate e-system for foreign travelers' purchased goods will enhance tourism and benefit the tourism sector, the premier noted. He reminded the MOF to pay special attention to crowded tax-rebate locations, and to coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies and take up response measures in advance regarding movement direction and crowd dispersion so that the quality of services will satisfy tourists.

According to the MOF, this new system involves measures such as setting up tax-rebate e-services for purchased goods to replace manual checks at customs; implementing onsite tax rebates for small amounts and contracting special city sites for tax-rebate services to promote spending by foreign travelers; and relaxing relevant laws and regulations to incentivize foreign tourists to spend time and money in Taiwan.
