Executive Yuan refutes assertion deal prevented bloodshed in Legislature

:::
Executive Yuan Spokesperson Sun Lih-chyun today refuted the assertion by Ker Chien-ming, chief convener of the Democratic Progressive Party's legislative caucus, that cooperation between Ker, Legislative Yuan President Wang Jin-pyng and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. Chairman Terry Gou prevented bloodshed in the Legislative Yuan, which could have occurred if police had forcibly removed the students occupying it.

Sun called this claim "an irresponsible accusation" as well as "sheer fiction and utterly untrue."

"During the students' occupation of the Legislature (from March 18 to April 10) the Executive Yuan stated multiple times that it respected the autonomy of the Legislative Yuan and would not forcibly evacuate protesters from the building unless the Legislative Yuan clearly instructed it to do so," Sun said.

According to Article 33 of the directives for the operational procedure of the Legislative Yuan, the legislature's security matters are the responsibility of police dispatched by the National Police Agency, and these officers are under the direction and supervision of the Legislative Yuan and must obey police regulations. Therefore, Sun explained, the Executive Yuan could not force protesters to leave the Legislature without the permission of the Legislative Yuan.
