Minister without Portfolio and Chief Negotiator John C.C. Deng on Wednesday led a delegation to take part in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation's (APEC) 24th Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting in the Papua New Guinea capital of Port Moresby, according to the Executive Yuan Office of Trade Negotiations (OTN). Chief Negotiator Deng will take the opportunity to exchange opinions on trade and economic issues in the Asia-Pacific with trade ministers from other APEC member economies.
The OTN indicated that the Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting will take place on May 25 and 26 at Port Moresby's International Convention Center. Topics for the meeting include ways to support the multilateral trading system; fostering sustainable and inclusive growth in the Asia-Pacific through digital development; promoting the use of information and communications technology to improve market access for micro-, small-, and medium-sized businesses; deepening regional economic integration and connectivity; and the future of APEC beyond 2020.
In addition, the trade ministers will receive a briefing from World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Roberto Azevedo on current international trade and economic trends. Director-General Azevedo will also discuss and exchange views on issues considered at the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference.
