Optimize cross-ministerial collaboration to promote immigrants' affairs: premier

:::

Premier Chang San-cheng today stated that new immigrants affairs and services encompass a wide range of aspects, including social welfare, education, employment and cultural adjustment, and enjoined the Ministry of the Interior's (MOI) National Immigration Agency (NIA) to enlist the help of the Overseas Community Affairs Council and Hakka Affairs Council in implementing related tasks.

In order to safeguard the rights and interests of new immigrants, the Executive Yuan has already set up a new immigrants affairs coordination task force to integrate the relevant tasks under various ministries, the premier pointed out. If necessary the organizational structure of the task force can be adjusted to accommodate such operations.

Chang further noted that the government has already initiated big data analysis in its policies and services to new immigrants. He expects the NIA to work hard to improve related services.

The number of new immigrants in Taiwan has already reached a sizable proportion, the premier said. The current administrative plans aimed at new immigrants must not only take care of the disadvantaged but also work to develop immigrants' potential, helping them to become a crucial labor force for the nation and a fresh new power for exploring and developing international space.

Chang made these remarks at today's Cabinet meeting after he was briefed by the MOI on accomplishments and future measures for new immigrants administration. The MOI stated that major achievements under cross-ministerial collaboration include:
● Helping new immigrants adjust to life in Taiwan.
● Safeguarding their rights and interests in work and employment.
● Optimizing the education levels of new immigrants and their offspring.
● Amending or revising relevant laws and regulations to safeguard mainland Chinese and
foreign spouses: for instance, eliminating requirements for letters of guarantee and
financial statements.
● Organizing multicultural events such as new immigrants' days, and establishing websites
with information for new immigrants.
