The following is a translation of selected sections from the premier's speech.
The 16th presidential and 11th legislative elections concluded on January 13, 2024. Taiwan's people have successfully and smoothly elected a new president to lead the nation forward into the future, alongside new members of the Legislative Yuan to represent the will of the people, thus writing a new chapter in the development of Taiwan's democracy.
I anticipate that the Executive Yuan administrative team will work closely with the Legislative Yuan to continue promoting a wide range of polices to benefit the nation and its people. However, in keeping with the conventions of our constitutional government, as well as to respect the new popular mandate represented by the incoming president and legislators, I have tendered the Cabinet's mass resignation to President Tsai Ing-wen.
Nearly one year ago, on January 31, 2023, at the request of President Tsai, I took up the mantle of premier. I would like to thank members of my administrative team for energetically discharging their duty as public servants, and for their full cooperation in actively promoting many important policies during this period to build a more compassionate and resilient living environment for the people of this nation. Once again, I wish to express my deepest respect and gratitude to each and every one of my team.
We now enter a new period as a caretaker Cabinet until we hand over our roles to the incoming administration. During this time, I would ask that each minister and agency head keeps a firm grip on the tiller and continues proactively taking forward the business of government; we must maintain a careful approach in looking after the public's daily needs and as we continue laying a resilient, solid foundation for the benefit of Taiwan's long-term development.
