Cabinet approves enhanced preferential housing loans for young homebuyers

:::

At Thursday's Cabinet meeting, Premier Chen Chien-jen received a briefing from the Ministry of Finance (MOF) on enhancements to a program that provides preferential housing loans for young homebuyers. The initial phase of the program commenced in December 2010, and as of June 2023 has assisted over 340,000 non-property-owning families to buy homes, the premier said. In addition, to respond to interest rates trending higher in recent years, the MOF coordinated with state-owned banks to reduce the interest rate for home loans by 0.125 of a percentage point starting from March 2022, to lighten people's interest repayment burdens.

The program helps achieve housing justice and expands assistance for those seeking to purchase housing and settle down, through measures such as raising loan limits, increasing loan interest subsidies, and extending loan repayment and loan forbearance periods. The premier directed the MOF to work with the Ministry of the Interior to forge ahead with its planning and promotion so as to realize a healthier real estate market.
