The government attaches great importance to improving Taiwan's working and living environment because a robust work force is crucial for growing the economy, Premier Lin Chuan said today at a Cabinet meeting.
After hearing the National Development Council's (NDC) report on creating a talent-retaining environment, the premier directed the council to gather public feedback and submit an action plan for the Executive Yuan's approval. The plan should also be carried out with the support of other ministries and government agencies and reviewed on a regular basis.
To better understand the issues encountered by people who come and work in Taiwan, the NDC organized two forums for foreign executives and surveyed foreign workers and students on the problems they most often experience. The council then conducted a comprehensive analysis and proposed 27 reform strategies in seven areas: visas, work, residency, financial services, taxes, insurance and the international living environment.
With many other countries vying for talent and Taiwan currently facing an outflow of workers, government agencies must face the challenge head on, loosen regulations and propose innovative measures that will attract and keep more workers in Taiwan, the NDC said.
