Digital tax services widely used, convenient

:::
After being briefed by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) on the management of 2012 income tax returns at today's Cabinet meeting, Premier Jiang Yi-huah praised the ministry for introducing new services which make filing much easier for taxpayers and asked it to continue developing services to convenience citizens.

Noting the popularity of these programs, the premier said that 99.5 percent of for-profit enterprises filed their income taxes online, and online returns accounted for 55 percent of all income taxes collected. Additionally, 32 percent of citizens used spreadsheet calculation services to file their returns.

"The MOF has recently promoted several creative measures to simplify tax administration and services and convenience citizens, including online filing, deduction inquiry and spreadsheet calculation services, and these have already produced great results," Jiang stated.

The income tax is one of the nation's most important taxes, the MOF stated; income tax receipts for 2012 total NT$760.8 billion (US$25.2 billion), 42 percent of the nation's total tax revenue. The ministry has actively promoted digitization, including the aforementioned services, in order to establish a more user-friendly tax environment, improve collection and simplify the process, it said.
