The Cabinet on Thursday approved a draft bill aimed at combating stalking and associated behavior. The bill will now go to the Legislature for review and debate.
Premier Lai Ching-te said that the many cases of stalking, harassment and related harms in recent years have attracted considerable public attention. To guarantee the security and independence of victims, the bill empowers law enforcement to investigate reported cases of stalking and enables courts to issue protective orders where warranted. The premier expressed hope that timely intervention by authorities can put a stop to stalking behavior and prevent the more serious crimes that sometimes follow.
