At the Cabinet's weekly meeting on Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received briefings from the Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of Justice on one new and three amended laws related to the combating of fraud. The premier said the legislation, which was recently passed by the Legislative Yuan, will strengthen the nation's legal system and enhance law enforcement tools for fighting fraud. He instructed the relevant ministries and agencies to complete work on complementary measures and supporting legislation, and revise the next-generation anti-fraud strategy guidelines to version 2.0 as soon as possible, in order to maximize efforts to curb fraud.
The premier said a comprehensive crackdown on fraud, organized crime, corruption, drugs and illicit money flows is part of the Executive Yuan's initiative to promote public safety, which forms one of the government's two central policy pillars alongside promoting economic development. In addition to ensuring that this year's anti-fraud measures are reliably implemented, the central government currently plans to allocate substantially increased funding to combat fraud crime in its 2025 general budget, demonstrating its concrete support and commitment toward the new legislation and updated measures.
The four pieces of anti-fraud legislation are: a new law governing fraud crime harm prevention, amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure, amendments to the Communication Security and Surveillance Act, and amendments to the Money Laundering Control Act.
