At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Chen Chien-jen received a Ministry of Economic Affairs briefing on the Social Innovation Action Plan 2.0. The premier said this updated version of the plan will continue to enhance Taiwan's social innovation ecosystem, establish more social enterprise exemplars, and engage in sharing and exchanges with the international community, thus spreading Taiwan's social influence on issues of global sustainability.
Premier Chen said the United Nations has adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a shared blueprint for all countries to recognize and tackle imbalances in global development. The Social Innovation Action Plan 2.0 aligns closely with the specific targets formulated by the U.N.'s 17 SDGs. More than just a new means to address future problems relating to the economy, society and environment, the promotion of social innovation is a key foundation for enterprise development and youth entrepreneurship, and sets the nation on a path toward a new economic model.
The government plans to invest NT$11.13 billion (US$362.3 million) on the Social Innovation Action Plan 2.0 between 2023 and 2026 to build closer public-private partnerships, strengthen the autonomous operation and development of social innovation organizations and respond to a range of social issues and needs. By focusing on the plan's four core strategic goals of realizing social values, accelerating the pace of innovation, linking different resources and expanding global influence, we can build a resilient nation that is innovative, inclusive and sustainable, the premier said.
