Typhoon Tembin made landfall on the Hengchun Peninsula today, causing emergencies like flooding, blackouts and bridge blocking in Pingtung and surrounding areas. After hearing initial reports, Premier Sean Chen immediately ordered Minister of the Interior Lee Hong-yuan, who doubles as commander of the Central Emergency Operation Center, to establish a forward command post in the disaster area.
Lee then ordered his deputy minister and the Central Emergency Operation Center's deputy director, Jian Tai-lang, to lead the heads of relevant agencies, including the Department of Social Affairs and the National Fire Agency, in quickly moving to Pingtung to join the commander of the Fourth Combat Zone, Lieutenant General Zheng De-mei, in establishing the forward command post in Pingtung so relief work could begin immediately and reconstruction could be completed as soon as possible.
