At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a National Science and Technology Council briefing on a plan to create a "new Silicon Valley" in the greater southern region of Taiwan. The premier said the plan will drive a new vision for southern Taiwan, noting that advancements in technology are opening up new opportunities for domestic industries. In promoting this new version of a Silicon Valley, the plan will continue to capitalize on the region's existing international advantages in industries such as semiconductors, biotechnology, medical devices, precision machinery and solar green energy, while also expanding into sectors such as drones, the space industry and smart agriculture.
Premier Cho added that the "new Silicon Valley" area will begin at Tainan's Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City and extend outward to the surrounding S-shaped semiconductor cluster, linking science parks and technology industrial parks in Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung. The plan will comprehensively upgrade industrial capabilities, from AI technology R&D to systems development, to facilitate Taiwan's entry into the era of AI applications. It will also drive digital and net-zero transformations across a wide range of industries.
