Premier Su Tseng-chang on Tuesday announced more than NT$40 billion (US$1.3 billion) in funding for the third phase (2020-2023) of the Council of Agriculture's (COA) rural regeneration program.
The premier made the announcement in Hsinchu County's Beipu Township while inspecting a rural regeneration project in Nanpu Community. He instructed the COA to continue working with local authorities on development projects to help beautify local communities.
The older generation will gain a sense of dignity if they feel a connection to their own land, while young people will return to the countryside if they have hope in the land, the premier said. And if government resources are used judiciously, local communities can be re-energized with more work opportunities and greater dignity.
The COA said that Nanpu has a population of nearly 500 people, mostly of Hakka origin. The community is the site of the nation's first rural regeneration project and was named a gold medalist in the first Golden Village Competition.
